Today we are delighted to bring you a VERY active cleanup group 🫂 from France: Champ d’Actions (@champ_d_actions) they have been cleaning up the rivers since 6 years, starting locally ♻️ with the river Garonne (one of the largest in Europe 🇪🇺 with 567km) in Toulouse and expanding their crew to several regions: Pyrénées, Castres, Tarn et Garonne. We have asked the leaders of the movement Florence and Cécile to tell us their story from their own words 🗣💬:

“Cécile and I (Florence) created the association👭. We were strolling along the Garonne River and were horrified by the amount of trash 🚯 we found there. Our initiative quickly gained popularity with the locals, and after 6 years, we’ve collected over 300,000 kilos of garbage along 120 km of riverbanks 🏞 with over 15000 people involved. The river water accounts for 97% of our drinking water, and it’s already full of microplastics… 10% of the Garonne’s fish 🐟 have plastic in their stomachs! It’s urgent that we protect our freshwater sources for ourselves and our ecosystem” 💧

🌱🌍 ”L’association a été créée par Cécile et moi-même (Florence). On se promenait le long du fleuve la Garonne et on a été horrifiées par la quantité de déchets retrouvés🌲. Notre action a rapidement rencontré du succès auprès de la population locale 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 et après 6 ans, on a ramassé plus de 300.000 kilos sur 120 km de berges avec plus de 15000 personnes. L’eau du fleuve représente 97% de notre eau potable. On y retrouve déjà énormément de microplastiques. 10% des poissons 🐟 de la Garonne en ont dans l’estomac. C’est une urgence de protéger nos sources d’eau douce pour nous-mêmes et pour notre écosystème🌲🏞. Au regard de l’état de notre planète, on peut se permettre encore beaucoup de choses, mais pas d’être passif💪”
