Our Tree-Planting Mission
At Clean Something For Nothing (CSFN), every action counts. Pick up trash? Great. But why stop there? Our ‘Pick N Plant‘ initiative flips cleanups into something bigger—funding tree planting in agroforestry. With a partner recognized by the UN World Restoration Flagship, we’re setting up Forest Gardens that fix ecosystems, feed families and tackle climate change.
Where we plant
Mount Elgon, Eastern Uganda. A place battered by deforestation, over-farming and land abuse. The land’s bare, the communities struggle, and landslides are more common than they should be… But things are changing. We’re turning dead soil into thriving green spaces that breathe life back into the environment and the people living there. And this is linked to litter removal!
How It Works
Planting trees is cool. But Forest Gardens? That’s next-level. They’re like nature’s multi-tools:
Bring land back to life with native trees and crops.
Feed families with sustainable, homegrown food.
Protect ecosystems by locking carbon in the ground and keeping soil where it belongs.
Farmers get tools, seeds, saplings and a four-year crash course in sustainable farming. By the time they’re done, they’ve transformed barren fields into lush, productive gardens that support both people and nature.
Our Impact
This isn’t just about planting trees for the sake of it. Here’s what’s actually happening:
Less CO2: Each tree eats up about 18 kg of CO2 every year. Good for the planet.
More Life: More trees mean healthier soil, more animals, and thriving ecosystems.
Better Livelihoods: Farmers like Regina Mutonyi and Suzan Kakai have gone self-sufficient, with hundreds of trees planted providing year-round food.

Regina Mutonyi (60, Buwalasi Bilaha): She started with 4 trees. Now? She’s got over 813 and counting. Her land’s healthier, and so is her income.
Suzan Kakai (37): Used to feed her family of 10 only part of the year. Now, thanks to her Forest Garden, they eat fresh veggies all year round.
