What a Sunday! On April 19th, 34 changemakers gathered at Hollerich Church to celebrate Earth Day 2026 in Luxembourg with the 8th edition of Clean N’ Learn, our community cleanup series. The theme this year, set globally by EarthDay.org, was “Our Power, Our Planet”, and for two hours, Hollerich turned that slogan into a reality.
This edition was co-hosted by Clean Something For Nothing (CSFN) and the EU Climate Pact Ambassadors of Luxembourg, with generous support from SINGA Luxembourg and Sembeza Africa.
A Sunday afternoon that turned a theme into action
The sun was out, the energy was high, and volunteers started arriving before 13h30, ready to gear up with gloves, yellow vests, trash bags and litter pickers. After a warm welcome, César from CSFN opened the event by reminding everyone why we do what we do: reconnecting people with nature, one bag of trash at a time.
Then came the heart of this edition: our special guests, Kerstin and Norbert, two of the most dedicated CSFN users worldwide, who travelled from Germany to share their story. Between them, they have logged over 1440 cleanups in the CSFN app. Their message was simple and powerful: small, repeated actions, done by ordinary people, are what actually change the state of the planet.
We also heard short inspiring pitches from Sembeza Africa and SINGA Luxembourg, two organisations proving that community and environmental action go hand in hand.
The cleanup: Hollerich, before and after
Split into crews led by CSFN, we hit the streets around Hollerich Church. In under 90 minutes, this amazing group delivered:
- ✅ 89 kg of trash collected
- ✅ 22 litres of cigarette butts, around 4400 butts picked up one by one
- ✅ 34 participants from all walks of life
Every bag, every butt, every minute of effort is logged in the CSFN app and adds up to something bigger than one afternoon in Luxembourg City.
The after-party: Ugandan tea and handmade pancakes
When the work was done, the celebration began. Rachel and Andrew from Sembeza Africa surprised everyone with warm Ugandan tea and homemade pancakes, the kind of generous hospitality that turns a cleanup into a community moment. Conversations flowed, new friendships were made, and the buzz of doing something good together was everywhere.
A massive thank you to Mathieu from SINGA Luxembourg for the brilliant translation work and to all the SINGA volunteers who made the experience accessible and welcoming for everyone.
The EU Climate Pact behind the event
The EU Climate Pact Ambassadors inform, inspire and support climate action across their communities and networks. Luxembourg is represented alongside around 900 Ambassadors across all 27 EU Member States. The EU Climate Pact, part of the European Green Deal, supports the EU’s goal of becoming the first climate-neutral continent by 2050.
Events like Clean N’ Learn are exactly what the Pact is designed to enable: local action, citizen-led, with real impact on the ground.
Earth Day is not a date, it’s a habit
Earth Day isn’t just April 19th. It’s every time you pick up a bottle on your walk home, every time you take ten minutes to clean your street, every time you choose to leave a place better than you found it.
That is the whole idea behind the CSFN app: a free, gamified tool (available in English, Spanish and French) that lets anyone track, share and celebrate their cleanups. Discover endangered animals as you level up, and watch your effort add up to something global.
